Two people were killed and two others hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on collision in Manatee County on January 8.
One driver lost control on a curve and drifted across the centerline directly into oncoming traffic.
The family of a person killed in a Florida automobile wreck caused by another driver’s negligence might have the right to recover money compensation by way of a Florida wrongful death lawsuit.
A media report states that Lisa Kaye Gunn, 50, of Bradenton and Nadine Hoffman, 56, of Sarasota were killed in the crash. Two of Hoffman’s family members were taken to Blake Medical Center after the 7 PM crash.
James Frank Hoffman, 58, is in serious condition and Josh Hoffman, 15, is in critical condition.
Gunn was driving her 2008 Mazda Tribute east and towards Verna Bethany Road when she failed to negotiate the curve and travelled into the westbound lane hitting the front of the Hoffman family’s Ford Explorer.
Gunn’s car rotated clockwise and stopped on the guardrail on the northbound shoulder of State Road 64 East. The Hoffman’s vehicle rotated clockwise and finally stopped obstructing the eastbound lane of State Road 64 East.
Reports state that all persons involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts. State troopers are still investigating whether alcohol played a factor in Gunn’s driving. Officials say that alcohol has been ruled out as a factor for Hoffman.
In 2010, there were 231,647 car wrecks in Florida, according to the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Of these collisions, 151,773 caused personal injuries and 1,789 resulted in fatalities.
