Last spring, many Florida drivers were upset when the House blocked legislation that would have banned texting while driving in the state. Now, one Naples mom is encouraging people to again take action to enact the law.
Kristin Murphy is leading a charge to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. She hopes that distracted driving laws in Florida will soon change.
Preventing distracted driving is a cause that is very important to Kristin. Two years ago, her daughter Chelsea was hit and killed in an accident involving a distracted driver.
Kristin told Fox 4 news that “more needs to be done. More people need to speak out. If people knew who my daughter was. I’d like to speak out at the schools. I’d like to teach the driver ed classes.”
Kristin plans to attend a summit in Tampa this November. The goal of the summit is to encourage lawmakers to revisit distracted driving legislation. We’ll follow up with a post about the summit as more details emerge.
In the meantime, we encourage all Florida drivers to stay focused while driving.
