Yaz Lawsuit
Yaz, with a generic name of Ocella, is an oral contraceptive used by women across the United States and all around the world. Yaz is marketed to be 99% effective in terms of preventing pregnancy, is advertised to be the only form of birth control that can treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and is even believed to help limit acne.
The problem is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued several warnings to Yaz manufacturer Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals because its television and print ads have exaggerated the benefits of the drug and have downplayed the numerous complications it brings. Bayer then agreed to allot $20 million to correct any misinformation in previous advertisements, and agreed to submit future advertisements to the FDA for approval prior to release.
This popular birth control pill differs from other oral contraceptives because it contains drospirenone, which causes blood levels of potassium to elevate and possibly lead to serious health problems. Over the years, Yaz has been under heavy scrutiny due to possible serious side effects such as DVT or deep vein thrombosis, PE or pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack, gall bladder disease, blood clots, kidney failure, liver failure, pancreatitis, and death.
Over the years, numerous class action lawsuits have been filed against Bayer on behalf of thousands of women who have either suffered serious complications or who have died due to the use of Yaz.
There have been recent Yaz lawsuit settlements with settlement amounts higher than many suspected. It’s not too late for individuals in the state of Florida and throughout the US who have developed a serious health condition due to the use of Yaz to join one of the many Yaz class action lawsuits against Bayer to seek monetary compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
